In 2016, Moriah Schmidt worked at the Directorate of Public Prosecutions in Kampala, Uganda, which prosecutes all criminal law cases in Uganda. The Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Mike Chibita, is a godly Christian leader who gave Moriah invaluable experience not only in the rule of law but also in the character of a Christian in the legal field. During her internship, Moriah wrote legal memos on cases including land grabbing, assaults, and murder. She also was able to attend many trials, including highly-publicized cases that made were often covered in the media. Moriah also enjoyed attending many different presentations and conferences, affording the opportunity to meet many Ugandans in the legal field, and visiting different courts, including Family Law to watch Mediations and Anti-Corruption court. Moriah enjoyed learning about the legal system and meeting so many incredible people in Uganda during her 1L summer at the DPP.
