Josue Casanova

Read about Josue’s experience:

In 2016, Josue Casanova interned with the Jerusalem Institute of Justice (JIJ) in Jerusalem, Israel. JIJ is an NGO that fights for human rights in the Middle East, especially in Israel and the Palestinian territories. While interning at JIJ, Josue helped fight for Israeli and Palestinian rights in three ways: First, he researched how Hamas is using Palestinian children for child labor and terrorism, and how Hamas can be held accountable via international law. Second, he created content for social media to fight the BDS movement, a movement that attacks Israel financially and seeks to delegitimize Israel in the eyes of the international community. Third, he helped JIJ advocate for an anti-prostitution law in the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) by interviewing a girl who escaped prostitution and then transcribing that interview so JIJ has a written source they can cite. According to Josue, this internship with JIJ “was an amazing opportunity to combine my different passions in ways I never thought possible. It invited and inspired me to think about the law and advocacy in entirely new ways.”
