Read about Courtney’s experience:
Courtney interned with the Hampton Commonwealth’s Attorneys’ Office (CAO). The CAO prosecutes cases on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the jurisdiction of Hampton. As such, Courtney spent the majority of her time in Hampton’s Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court utilizing her Third Year Practice certificate, which allows her to try real-life cases under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Specifically, Courtney interviewed witnesses, conducted cross-examinations, made disposition arguments in juvenile cases, handled domestic violence cases, and sat second chair in a Circuit Court jury trial. According to Courtney, working in a CAO provides a wealth of invaluable opportunities that are hard to come by anywhere else. She even said, “My confidence in the courtroom has increased drastically in just one summer spent at the CAO. I feel more prepared than ever for what the future has in store for me.”
