Among reasons for its establishment, NHRC has the duty to investigate how the rights of detainees in detention posts are respected to specific standards. Additionally, NHRC monitors how the judicial processes abide by human rights norms. It is in this regard that Commissioner Me Laurent Nkongori, Mrs. Bernadette Mukankundiye; Twagirayezu Tharcisse, personnel of the commission and Butoyi Rehema, an intern student visited three police stations in Nyarugenge District and Nyamagabe, from 10^th July up to 13^th July, 2013 and from 24^th up to 26^th July. The NHRC visited detainees, in police stations of Muhima, Nyamirambo and Mageragere affiliated to Nyarugenge district and the prison in Nyamagabe.
